Wabash Has Chance To Make Statement
Wabash MPI - Carver, Inc. Finishes Upgrade
Wabash MPI - Carver, a hydraulic press and injection molding machine manufacturer, has recently completed an extensive upgrade/renovation project that was started in 1996! After being purchased by Harbour Group (St. Louis, MO) in the spring of 1995, a plan was established to update the facility. This plan included replacing a large portion of the capital equipment in the manufacturing area. MPI has currently taken delivery of two new lathes, two CNC machining centers, a 30" x 60" surface grinder, and new material handling equipment. Extensive improvements have also been made to the welding area. This last phase, just completed, was the addition of two 5 & 10 ton overheade cranes and rewiring of a new assembly area to increase the capacity and efficiency of the facility. The plant improvements have coincided with record shipments and the addition of approximately 20 new employees. MPI has expressed appreciation to all the suppliers who have contributed to this project.
"Help Us, Rhonda" - WACC's New Theme Song
Have you noticed a new voice at the Chamber? If you call or stop in afternoons you may well be greeted by Rhonda Chanthachak. We are very pleased to have Rhonda with us as she learns just what it is like in the cold cruel environment of the workplace. Rhonda is a senior at Wabash High School working from 1:15 to 2:45 Tuesday through Friday through the school to work program under the direction of Karen Halley. She intends to go on to college next year although she is currently uncertain where she will attend. Rhonda is a member of the National Honor Society and Wabash High School Choir. Rhonda continues to be a great help to us. Please welcome her as you see her this semester.

Wabash Has Chance To Make Statement
As you may have heard the eyes of the film industry are looking at Wabash this week. A true "G" rated old fashion family movie making Wabash one of its 6 premier spots in the nation. A good attendance will show Hollywood that America will support this type of film and indeed wants more of them. "Summer of the Monkeys" starring Corey Sevier, Wilford Brimley, Michael Ontkein, and Leslie Hope is just that movie brought to Wabash by the Heartlend Film Festival before Disney releases it on video in December. Cast your vote by your attendance at Eagles Theatre.
Celebration of Light
The 12th annual Celebration of Light will be Friday, November 20 beginning at 6:30 p.m. on the courthouse lawn. This event, sponsored by the Wabash Area Chamber of Commerce commemorates our heritage of being the first electrically lighted city as well as ushering the Christmas Holiday season to Wabash. It is only proper to celebrate "light" at this time as there is such an impact brought by light to the advent season with both secular and religious symbolism. Representatives from all the townships of Wabash County will gather at the Courthouse to aid in spreading the light from one single candle, throughout the crowd and ultimately to the top of the Courthouse as the famous tree around the top of the Courthouse is illuminated. Of course there will also be entertainment and yes, that jolly old elf from the North Pole will make his first official stop in Wabash. Santa will begin his tour at Wabash Village Shopping Center at 6:00 p.m. winding up downtown after the ceremony where downtown merchants are planning special events of their own.
