The Job You Don't SeeHow would you respond if someone called your business and said, "I would like the name, phone number and address of a certain elected official?" How would you respond if, that same day, you received a letter asking for information on the county? What is there to see? What are the industries? Or more phone calls asking "What is the present population and the projected future population? Where can I stay? Where can I find this? Where can I find that? Where can I buy this? Where can I buy that?"
How would you respond if someone stopped in your business and asked for literature and a county map? How would you respond if, throughout the day, the questions flew thick and fast..."What are the schools, what do I need to do to start a business, where do I go for this or that?"
Your Chamber receives these kinds of inquiries on a regular basis, responding quickly and courteously with either the answer or a referral. Your Chamber provides people with the information they want and need.
That is "The Job You Don't See." That is the regular day to day service your Chamber provides that most people overlook unless they themselves need some information.
"The Job You Don't See" is one of the most utilized services that your Chamber provides for the community. The employees in your business couldn't or wouldn't do it...The service clubs couldn't or wouldn't do it...The schools couldn't or wouldn't do it...it isn't their responsibility. Your Chamber, on the other hand, writes the community's letters; answers the community's telephone; and waits on the community's customers.
That is "THE JOB YOU DON'T SEE." It is one of the most valuable and important jobs your Chamber does for the community. Yet it has no glamour; it has no romance; it can not and does not make the headlines; it is even seldom ever mentioned. But, if your Chamber did nothing else, this service - unhonored and unsung as it is - would be worth the entire amount of dues paid to your Wabash Area Chamber of Commerce.
